| Description | The Hon. Anthony Byrne was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Trade in February 2009. Mr. Byrne also holds the role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, a position he has undertaken since November 2007. Mr. Byrne supports the Minister for Trade in relation to the promotion and advocacy of the Government trade and investment attraction policy. He works with the Minister, DFAT and Austrade to implement export, business development and investment attraction programs. Mr. Byrne also seeks to help Australian companies capitalise on new market access opportunities resulting from multilateral, regional & bilateral agreements, especially with respect to the ASEAN Australian New Zealand FTA and Chile FTA. Prior to taking on his current role, Mr. Byrne has served on a number of industry and trade related parliamentary committees, including: the Joint Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee; the House Standing Committees for both Industry and Resources, the House Standing Committees for Science and Innovation; and also the Joint Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade. Mr Byrne is the Federal Member for the south east Melbourne seat of Holt, which he has held since 1999. | ||
